Decision
Understand the conditions of your visa and the next immigration stage after approval.
Inside or outside the UK?
If you are overseas you apply for entry clearance and travel after the decision. If you are already in the UK with permission that allows switching, you apply for permission to stay and remain here while it is decided.
After approval
Check the dates and conditions as soon as you receive the decision. Most people now receive digital proof of status in the form of an eVisa. Note the date your permission ends: the extension application must be made before then.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I travel while my application is pending?
If you applied from inside the UK, leaving the UK before a decision normally means the application is treated as withdrawn. If you applied overseas, your passport may be held or needed for the decision.
