The Immigration Health Surcharge
The surcharge gives access to the NHS and is paid in full, in advance, for the whole length of the visa. It is charged in addition to the application fee and is paid again at each extension. It is not charged on an application for Indefinite Leave to Remain.
The cost of the whole route
Budget for the full journey, not only the first application. A typical five-year route involves a first application, one extension and then an application for Indefinite Leave to Remain, each with its own fee.
| Stage | Application fee | Health surcharge |
|---|---|---|
| First visa from overseas | £2,064 | £3,105 |
| Extension inside the UK | £1,407 | £2,587.50 |
| Indefinite Leave to Remain | Separate fee, check GOV.UK | None |
Fee waivers
People applying from inside the UK who cannot afford the fee may be able to ask for a fee waiver in limited circumstances. A waiver changes the route you are on, so take advice first.
